About The Fox

These are my thoughts as I enter a new life walking the path of the ‘druid’. I do my best to present an accurate representation of my ancient journey in a modern world with modern eyes and a Celtic soul, here on these pages . Please leave comments even if you disagree, as long as you want to continue a real discussion about them since this is one of the ways we learn.

My deepest desire is to further my relationship with the gods, dear spirits, nature and my dearest Tuatha in this life. This blog is a way to motivate me to do so by fulfilling the need to record my experiences, mundane or not.

Besides being an enigma of contradictions I am a Ninjutsu practicing, Dr. Pepper drinking, dirt loving, mountain hiking, snowboarding, animal care providing, wool knitting, book reading, tree hugging, home cooking, garden growing, horseback riding, PC gaming, prose writing, semi-domesticated Celtic worshiping military spouse.

If you keep reading..there is more!!

POLYTHEIST

” Celtic pagan” ….”Polytheistic”….”A little Heathen”…. I realize there will be some people who stumble across my little virtual doorstep not knowing what to make of all this Gods plural talk and ancient spirits and a strange language that sounds nothing like it’s written (that would be Irish Gaelic)….soooo…here goes.

The following is from my Tuatha’s website…

“A Celtic pagan path is mostly polytheistic in our approach . . .. Some feel that the gods and goddesses are all separate entities in and of themselves. Others may see them as facets of one large divine gem. Your approach to the gods is individual and neither is more correct than the other. The lore left to us by the Celts is happily unspecific in this regard.

The Celts believed (and still do believe) that the Gods are a part of this world as well as the Otherworld.

Rivers, lakes, caves, forests, mountains, hills and many other places in the natural world are places where they dwell and can be interacted with. The tribe of the Gods serve many functions in the world. Individual Celtic pagans hope to develop a personal relationship with their God or Goddess of choice, learning more about themselves, their God, and their place in the world.

Colorado is full of what the Celts once regarded as “local gods”. Gods and Goddesses that inhabited powerful places within the landscape, places that could give healing, guidance, and a sense of power. These “local gods” are given our respect. They have much to teach and are often ignored by the pagan community at large.

Most important of all, however, is the Land Goddess that *is* Colorado. It is a right relationship with Her that our tribe seeks as a whole. She is the source of our water, our air, our food, and many other things besides. In the end, She is all that matters.”

I’m also part of a movement called Celtic Reconstruction, which means we draw upon the tales, historical accounts, archaeological facts and current knowledge about the Celtic peoples, their spirit and their understanding of the world. ( not to say that it’s better than anyone else’s view).

We look to the Celts of the past (and the present) for inspiration in how to live, work, love, and prosper, in our lives today. We call on many Gods and Goddesses to help us in anyway they wish. Our goals are lofty. We hope to live and die without regret.

For many of us, the act of listening to the deeds of the Cuchulainn, or the tragic death of Dierdre, is more stirring to the blood and spirit than can be expressed. We study Irish Gaelic, Celtic forms of folkdance, Celtic star lore, wilderness survival, martial arts, meditation, parenting, public speaking, herbalism, prayer, storytelling, Celtic music, and a thousand other things besides. We welcome those who wish to help preserve the Celtic spirit, and be a part of a Tribe in the truest sense of the word.”

The Celtic world is incredibly vast and being a “Celt” is much more than wearing a torc and spitting out a few funny sounding words. There is a vivacious and wonderful spirit that is uniquely Celtic. It’s hidden in the Lore, history, culture, music and language. Even today, much is being found on how the ancient Celts lived and worshiped and it’s every bit as fascinating as the older knowledge.

My ancestral background is Welsh (and Norwegian) and I feel a strong connection when I am able to further the Celtic spirit in my daily practices. For the moment connecting the long lines of distant past and now present are most important to me.

Hey! Just wondered if you mind me linking to your new “home” on the net? I’ve been planning to update my blogroll, and as long as you don’t mind, I’ll update your link too.

Happy Yule! :D

Hi Fox,
I was wondering what sign you are?
I am a 37 yo female scorpio eclectic wiccan who is still working on finding her path. I loved what you had to say about Brighid. I live on a ridge at 1200 feet above sea level in PA, and my favorite place to go is the mountains! I understand perfectly. I had thought that Brighid might be a good patron goddess for me, and now I am certain after reading your article. Thanks. :)
Blessings,
Suzi

Awesome. welcome to the woods ;) As for my astrological sign (I assume that is what you were asking for) I’m a Rat in the Chinese calander and an Aries in western Astrology.
Remember it takes a long time to develop a relationship with anyone , much less a god/ goddess. I’m still struggling with sweet Brighed.
Thanks for stopping by Suzi and welcome. Let me know if you need anything. I suggest you check out some of the other blogs I have on my list( druid Journal, Heathen Blog, Pagan Sojourn and heathen’s day). There is a lot of good information out there. Good luck! -Kit

Hello there! I stumbled upon your website some time back, and just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences. Looking at your tuatha, it seems you have acheived what my wife and I hope for with our group. Though we are of a different tradition(norse/germanic reconstructionists), I feel that we are alike more than we are different, as the lines of our people have intertwined through the centuries. Being a bit of a mutt, I have no small bit of Scottish blood thrown in with the Scandinavian, as well as some Apache and Japanese. It’s good to find a group which honors the old ways and Gods.
By the way, I particularly like this bit:”my ancient journey in a modern world with modern eyes and a Celtic soul”. Very nice.
In Frith,
Byron

Thank you for the comment Bryon! It’ always good to hear from others regardless of tradition. If you are ever in Beautiful Colorado drop by and visit with the Tuatha. Thank you again for your kind comments and letting me know a bit about you.
Be well.

Hey fellow Tar Heel! I’m in eastern NC near the coast (where my mama’s people are from), but my father was from western NC. I have strong roots all in those mountains from his side. I’m sorry to hear about your family’s land being sold–I do understand about connection to the ancestral places.

I was browsing around the Celtictale site and saw on your blog that you’re from NC– so I had to say HEY! Your Tuatha seem like the coolest ever. I’m looking to start a clan like yours in my area. Ya’ll really seem to be right in line with my thinking and belief. Take care, and maybe I can email ya’ll for some advice sometime.

Lee

Feel free to do so Lee. building a clan just isn’t about the people in your area. We’d be happy to help in anyway. It seems I never got the notification that you had left a comment so apologies for the delayed response.
Building a tuatha isn’t easy at all but maybe we could pass on some advice or experiences. we have our troubles too. *wink* give some love to beautiful Mama NC for me.

Cassie. I read your post about the broken heart situation. It kind of shook me up. Very scary stuff. I too have the screaming monkey mind. In the last year what I have found to help quell the beast is B vitamins, specifically B-6 and B-12. The B-6 I take about 2 of the 100 mg tabs. No special brand. The B-6 seems to calm my anxiety in about 2 hours. It helped take away that feeling that something was bad going to happen. The b-12 I take in two different energy drinks: Zip Fizz (41,000% of daily requirement) which you can sometimes buy at Sam’s club or online. The other is called XS Energy (4,900% of daily requirement). I think that can be ordered online too. They actually give you an energy boost. Several other teachers and I use them to help get through the day of High School students (you know I teach high school, right?) I don’t know if any of this will help but you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope to see you at training soon.

Oops. I also wanted to say that B vitamins are called the stress vitamins. They are water soluable so what you don’t use, you excreet.
Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Ah thank you my dear friend. I’m currently taking B vitamins and some herbs my acupuncturist gave me. Acupuncture is REALLY helping me too. I’ll be around class on sunday, just watching cause I’m currently wearing a heart monitor. We can talk more then too.
I miss you ninja. It’s been a long time since we’ve hung out. I heard you passed your test too. congrats. :D
